Frequently Asked Questions
BAGUIO PURE COCONUT OIL
- Coconut Oil is produced from copra, the dried coconut meat.
- Coconut Oil produced from copra undergoes a process of refining (removal of fatty acids), bleaching (colored substances removal) and deodorization (volatile components removal at high temperature exceeding 200oC).
- Coconut oil naturally solidifies at around 24oC – 25oC or lower and returns to liquid form when temperature goes above 27oC. The Coconut Oil can be either liquid or solid depending on the room’s temperature.
- While it is saturated fat, it is a healthy fat because the saturated fat content of coconut oil is mostly Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA).
- MCFAs are easier to digest (Berning, 1986) and faster to absorb (Clark & Holt, 1965). It rapidly oxidizes to ketone bodies, producing cellular energy and little deposition in adipose (fat) tissue (Bremer, 1980/ McGarry et al, 1978/ Baba, bracco, Hashim, 1982).
- Coconut oil is one of the most misunderstood fat. It has been portrayed by some as an artery-clogging saturated fat that causes heart diseases, while others hail it as the healthiest oil on earth1. Coconut oil solidifies below 24oC – 25oC, while the normal temperature of human body is 37 oC, so it will never clog the artery. For years, Coconut Oil was believed to raise cholesterol and increase the risk to get heart diseases. But several studies in medical journals showed that coconut oil actually has the potential to protect against variety of health problems including cardiovascular diseases.
- Coconut oil is predominantly composed of a special group of saturated fats called Medium-Chain fatty acids (MCFA) which possess unique properties with important nutritional and medicinal applications. Decades of research have shown that MCFA possess potent antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties2,3. Majority of MCFAs in coconut oil is lauric acid. Lauric Acid (C12) has many health benefits. It decreases the stickiness of blood platelets that also aids digestion by increasing motility (flow of the stomach). Its secretions reduce cholesterol in blood and liver, and increases the uptake of calcium. When lauric acid enters the body, it is converted into monolaurin, a monoglyceride compound which exhibits antiviral, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties. This promotes better immune system and healthier gut for good digestion and absorption of nutrients essential for our cells.

- Yes, you may use coconut oil, as our bodies need fat.
- Coconut oil is about 65% MCFA, also known as Medium Chain Triglyceride (MCT). MCFAs are easily digested and absorbed – four more times efficient than long-chain fats.
- MCTs are absorbed directly without the need for digestive enzymes. Part of it is metabolized by the liver to ketones which can be used by most cells in the body for energy. This portion of the coconut oil is not stored as fat.
- Coconut Oil is a vegetable oil. The label “vegetable oil” is a generic name for oils derived from plants.
- Our label is currently transitioning from “vegetable oil” to “coconut oil”. Soon, all coconut oil with “vegetable oil” label will be replaced with “Pure Coconut Oil”.
- Coconut Oil has demonstrated to be one of the most stable oil when heated under different heating temperature.
- No added preservatives. Just Coconut Oil and Vitamin A Palmitate as required by Philippine Food Fortification Act of 2000.
- It provides 135 kilocalories per serving (source of energy)
- Vitamin A – minimum 180 micrograms RE equivalent to 33% RENI
- Provides 135 kilocalories per serving or per 15 grams as source of energy
- 0 Trans Fat

BAGUIO CANOLA OIL
- Canola Oil is a type of vegetable oil derived by means of crushing the seeds of canola plant.
- Yes, it contains high amounts of oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat. It is rich in two polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential in our diet because these are not naturally produced by our body:
- Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is an essential omega-3 fatty acid.
- Linoleic acid (LA) is an essential omega-6 fatty acid.
- It provides 133 calories per serving (or per 15 grams)
- 0 Trans Fat
- 0 Cholesterol
- 7.93g Omega 3/100g Canola Oil
- 16.48 g Omega 6/100g Canola Oil
- PUFA – 4.5 grams/serving (14g)
- MUFA – 8 grams/serving (14g)
- Vitamin A – 180 micrograms RE equivalent to 33% RENI per serving
BAGUIO CORN OIL
- Corn oil is extracted from corn kernels (maize). After extraction, corn oil is then refined, bleached, deodorized, and winterized. Alkali treatment also neutralizes free fatty acids and removes color (bleaching). The final step is refining that includes winterization (the removal of waxes), and deodorization by steam distillation of the oil at 232-260 °C (450–500 °F) under a high vacuum.
- As per our label, 1 serving of corn oil (14 grams) is equivalent to 57% and 1% Daily Value Omega 6 and Omega 3 respectively. (No supporting document, for third party testing yet).
BAGUIO PREMIUM PALM OIL
- Palm oil is derived from the flesh (mesocarp) of the palm fruit.
- Palm olein is the liquid fraction obtained during fractionation of palm oil. Palm Olein is further fractionated to a more liquid fraction called “Super Palm Olein.”
- Baguio Premium Palm Oil is produced through the oil extraction of sterilized palm fruit mesocarp. After extraction, the extracted crude oil undergoes the refining processes including neutralization, bleaching, deodorization, and double fractionation.
- Palm oil is a tropical oil. It has a tendency to crystallize and become cloudy upon storage at cooler temperature. This is only a physical transformation and the oil is perfectly safe for consumption.
- Baguio Premium Palm Oil is a double fractionated palm olein known as Super Palm Olein whereas Baguio Orchids Brand Vegetable Oil is single fractionated palm olein known as Palm Olein.
- It provides 135 calories per serving (or per 15 grams)
- 0 Trans Fat

- Vitamin A – 180 micrograms RE equivalent to 33% RENI per serving
BAGUIO ORCHIDS BRAND VEGETABLE OIL
- Baguio Orchids Brand Vegetable Oil is produced by oil extraction of sterilized palm fruit mesocarp. After extraction, the extracted crude oil undergoes the refining processes including neutralization, bleaching, deodorization, and fractionation.
- Baguio Orchids Brand Vegetable Oil is made from 100% refined palm oil. The label “vegetable oil” is a generic name for oils derived from plant.
- It provides 135 calories per serving (or per 15 grams)
